Injustice and misrepresentation are unfortunately all too common in our communities. Even when I am away from the people and places that have made me who I am, I refuse to remain silent when a call to action is made. During the summer of 2019, Former governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló had caused enough controversy and corruption for the people of my island to rise up and protest. While I was in Minneapolis, I took to my streets to join in solidarity. To amplify my voice, I designed a micro-campaign for the #rickyrenuncia movement. A combination of print and apparel that merged the imagery of the Puerto Rican flag with the demand “renuncia” overlaying the flag. I wanted the work to look raw and imperfect, amplifying the fact that we do not seek perfection, merely justice.
